KISMET

KIZ-met (n.) Fate, destiny.


The noun kismet refers to fate or destiny -- the outcome of something that was somehow meant to be or predetermined. Deriving from the Arabic qisma meaning 'division, portion, lot.' The first known use of Kismet was in 19th century Turkey.
